FAA proposes hefty fines for HAZMAT shipping violations

When the FAA discovers and alleges a violation of HAZMAT shipping regulations they will propose a civil penalty.

Civil penalties will likely be much larger than you would expect.

Below are some recent examples of proposed penalties.

$91,000 against a company for allegedly offering a box containing skin care products containing alcohol to DHL for transportation by air. The shipment was undeclared. DHL workers discovered the leaking package.

$78,000 against a company for allegedly offering a fiberboard box containing paint, a flammable liquid, for transportation by air. The shipment was undeclared. UPS workers discovered the material leaking from the package.

$97,500 against a company for allegedly accepting a fiberboard box containing alcohol for transportation by air. The box was marked to indicate it contained hazardous materials but it leaked. UPS workers discovered the leaking package.
